Lung Cancer Canada was heartbroken to learn that our good friend Elizabeth Dessureault
passed away on Saturday February 25, 2017 at the age of 27. Elizabeth was such a strong soul and tireless advocate. She lived life fully, as is evident in the video Because of You
. As a young mother, wife and teacher, Elizabeth was the embodiment of hope and wanted nothing more than to "change the face of lung cancer
." Elizabeth once wrote on her blog, From Lizzie's Lungs
, "I will always have hope. Lots of it. Hope for new research, treatments and for more time. More time to witness Jack’s firsts. It truly is my dream that as research and funding continue to grow, lung cancer will be, if not curable, a chronic disease." That hope and her spirit lives on through her young son, Jack. She will be missed immensely.
Her voice was our voice.
All lung cancer patients need their voices heard and the time for change is now! Lung cancer remains the #1 cancer killer in Canada - more than breast, colorectal and prostate cancers combined - and yet receives the least proportion of research funding
