My Cancer IQ | Learn Your Risk

Earlier this year, Cancer Care Ontario launched the My Cancer IQ website. This portal is a space that helps folks understand their risks for cancer, and what can be done to help lower that risk. My Cancer IQ helps assess individual risk for breast, colorectal, cervical, and lung cancer.

The quiz itself takes about 5-10 minutes, and it asks you questions about things that may affect your risk of developing lung cancer. At the end of the assessment, it estimates your lung cancer risk compared with other Ontarians of your age and sex who have never had cancer. Users also receive a personalized report full of tips on how to help lower your risk.

Tools like these are very helpful in de-centering the stigma around lung cancer because of smoking. There are plenty of other lifestyle factors or working conditions that can contribute to developing lung cancers other than smoking. It also shows how smoking can lead to increased risk for developing lots of other types of cancers and diseases as well.
