Community

Community involvement is important to Lung Cancer Canada. Below are some examples of those who endeavour to raise awareness and to educate about the issues surrounding lung cancer.

Vermont Square Long Term Care Home hosted a community health fair on Wed., April 5th, 2017 from 10 am – 4 pm in Vermont Square, Toronto. The purpose of this event was to educate the community about illnesses, including lung cancer, that are affecting our society and ways to lead a healthy lifestyle.

In February 2017, two students from Royal Oak Middle School in Victoria, BC sent Lung Cancer Canada the letter below, outlining their school project: lung cancer. After learning more about the disease, they decided they wanted to help raise awareness and funds. They took their message to their community and were able to raise $210; not bad for a couple of grade 6 students!
Kareena and Priya - Lung Cancer Canada is very thankful for your generosity and applauds all of your efforts. It is community activities like these that will help to educate Canadians, provide support to lung cancer patients and their families, and make a difference!

In April 2016, the students at Denlow Public School in Toronto were assigned a project to teach their class about a charity close to their heart. Project Give Back is a passion based program designed for elementary students to develop empathy, build character, and ignite community minded citizens. It's amazing what can happen when children have passion, believe in themselves and gain a feeling of accomplishment.
