He was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991, and in 2017 was named one of the top 100 greatest NHL players in history. Diagnosed with Lung Cancer in October 2021 and having passed away in April 2022, the Bossy family started the Mike Bossy Fund to honour his memory and to help increase awareness on the importance of lung cancer screening, including the pilot screening program in Quebec where the Bossy family resides today.
